Positive Psychology/Coaching For Self-Confidence

Self-Confidence affects all facets of your life, including your career, relationships and your ability to excel financially. Do you have the confidence to set clear goals and believe that you can reach them? Confidence all begins with your mind-set. For instance, do you have a dream to buy your own home or start a business, but feel you can't afford it on your own? Don't let this mindset block you from your dreams! You can do it. There are several simple things you can do daily to shift your thinking into a place of higher confidence. For example, one day this week as you practice this emerging mind-set, dress in a favorite outfit that makes you feel your most confident. Consciously observe how you start to behave differently; as you have given yourself an external cue to instiill an improved internal state. In addition, notice situations where you feel more confident and praise yourself once a day or more for every step towards your goal.

In this presentation, I'll teach you some holistic tools to use with clients to:enhance self-confidence, heighten levels of joy and fulfillment, increase satisfaction in relationships, reach goals quickly. Barbara Cox, PhD is a Holistic psychologist, with a focus on personal growth and transformational consulting. She is the founder of TheConfidentGoddess.com, which offers personalized individual sessions and workshops for women that teach them to connect with their inner power to become the women they were meant to be. Her relationship advice has been featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, as well as other local and national publications. She received her BA from UCSD and her MA and PhD from Alliant International University. She is also the author of The Confident Goddess Workbook (Publisher: iuniverse.com). She specializes in individual success coaching, peak performance hypnosis, on-line stress management meditations, and group tele-classes.

NAMI Walk 2008

One in five people will be treated for a biological brain disorder at some point in their life. NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walks for the Mind of America, the annual San Diego fundraiser, is a part of the solution.

The NAMI Walks raise money for programs that increase mental health recovery and reduce mental illness stigma.

Members of SDNC-CAMFT have formed a team and will be walking in the 5K event. Our goal is to have 10 walkers on our team and for each walker to raise $100, reaching a total of $1000 for our team.

In addition, SDNC-CAMFT has become a supporter of the event and members from our chapter will be dispensing information at our exhibit table on the day of the walk.

You can participate in 3 different ways:

  1. become a walker (join our team: sdnc-camft),
  2. donate money for any walker on the team, and/or
  3. volunteer your time at our exhibit table.

To sign up as a walker or to donate money, go to:
www.nami.org/namiwalks08/SDC/sdnc-camft

To volunteer to help on the day of the event or for any questions, contact Nancy Cohn Donoghue, Community Liaison, SDNC-CAMFT at:liaison@sdnc-camft.org.

The Call of Eros: Creativity and Love

The whole adventure of creativity is about joy and love and liberation. The path of individuation, the road to recovery, the hero's journey and the artist's process of discovery also go through a similar archetypal pattern of change. They all require a risk-taking, a letting-go, an element of surprise and synchronicity and bring forth healing, wholeness and transformation. In this workshop I invite the therapist to awaken to the creative calls coming from inside themselves, to become more attuned to the calls their clients are receiving and to learn how to navigate and enthusiastically encourage these openings with breakthrough expressive arts experiences, exercises and understandings.

Jane Goldberg, Ph.D., L.M.F.T., R.E.A.T., C.E.T. is a licensed practicing Marriage and Family Therapist, a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and a Certified Expressive Therapist. She founded the Expressive Arts Training Institute in 1986 and has been leading professional training programs and group workshops locally, nationally, and internationally for over 25 years. Dr. Goldberg designed the master's and doctorate programs in expressive arts therapy as San Diego University of Integrative Studies in 1999. She is also a founding member of IEATA (International Expressive Arts Therapy Association) and is a distinguished fellow of NETA (National Expressive Therapy Association). In Support of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week Casa Palmera, SDNC CAMFT & The Recovery Systems Clinic Present: Julia Ross, MA, MFT/Holistic Eating Disorder Treatment Consultant

America's 40-year romance with emaciation and yo-yo dieting is largely responsible for our current epidemic of eating disorders. Food restriction and purging can create critical deficits in mood and appetite-regulating neurotransmitters such as serotonin. The result? Treatment resistant body hate, food obsession, depression and anxiety. Addressing these nutrient deficiency conditions with targeted nutrient supplementation can provide dramatic benefits. For example, simple amino acid protocols can eliminate food cravings, negative moods, and irrational thinking by effectively raising levels of serotonin, endorphin, norepinephrine and GABA. Solutions to other biochemical contributors to eating disorders, such as dysglycemia, thyroid dysfunction, yeast overgrowth, and allergy-addiction will also be discussed.

Location: Casa Palmera - 4750 El Camino Real, Del Mar, California 92014
$20 for Licensed Professionals - $10 for Students and Interns. One CEU provided for MFTs, LCSWs, RNs, and Cert. Nutritionists.

High Conflict Divorce

A certain degree of conflict is considered normal when parents divorce. But when the conflict persists, these former partners are considered to be in a high conflict divorce. The pattern of poor communication and hostility can continue long after the divorce is final and continues to negatively impact the children whose lives have already been torn apart. The methodology of the High Conflict Diversion Program is fundamentally different as it helps parents to disengage from one another so that they can reduce the conflict level and focus on their children's well being, as well as to improve their parenting. Another distinction of the High Conflict Diversion Program is that it teaches parenting skills that do not require the cooperation of both parents. In contrast to the Parents Turn program, only one parent need implement the strategies we teach in order for the conflict to be stopped. One goal of the High Conflict Diversion Program is to work with attorneys and counselors at the beginning of the divorce process (when possible), even prior to papers being filed, in order to identify the potential for high conflict. Intervention at this time is optimal. But even if a parent starts the High Conflict Diversion Program after a high conflict scenario has begun (or years later!), our strategies for resolution frequently succeed in shifting the dynamic away from conflict continuation. Brook Olsen HHP/SEP founded the High Conflict Diversion Program in 2006 and continues to direct its evolution. Brook is a Certified Parenting Educator with the International Network For Children and Families, a Certified Divorce Mediator, and Life Coach. Nicola Ranson, MSW calls her private practice "Tea and Empathy Counseling." She has offices in both Encinitas and Old Town, San Diego, where she specializes in working with trauma and anxiety disorders.
